Adventures in Sound

I have been playing with field sound recording and editing as an addition to my arts language.

Recording sound in the world around me gives me great pleasure. Bringing the raw recordings back into my visual arts studio I have discovered a surprising synergy to painting practice. The layering of paint onto canvas, bring together the elements of composition, colour and tone, to me uses the same elements when I edit sound into a completed composition.

“I have created a series of drawings and placed them together in a graphic novel style. The character MOS (Marine Observing System) is based on previous projects. He is the “superhero”, drawing attention to what is happening. Purposely without words, the images and sounds of MOS and his observations tell a story.”
